Rigid Polyurethane.
A hard, closed-cell polyurethane system used where thermal insulation, structural characteristics and dimensional stability are important.
Definition
What IsRigid Polyurethane?
Rigid polyurethane is produced when the polyurethane reaction is formulated to create a dense network of small, mostly closed cells. Those closed cells trap gas, which is what gives the material its insulating character, while the surrounding polymer structure keeps the shape stable.
In practice this means rigid foam can be poured or injected into a cavity, expand to fill it, and then hold that form as part of a finished assembly. It is used in applications where insulation, structural handling and dimensional stability need to work together rather than as separate layers.
Applications
Where RigidSystems Are Used.
01Application Area
Construction
Rigid polyurethane is used within insulated panels and insulation layers in wall, roof and facade assemblies, where the building envelope has to perform thermally while remaining practical to install.
- Insulated panels
- Wall insulation
- Roofing systems
- Thermal insulation
02Application Area
Refrigeration
Appliance cabinets and doors rely on rigid foam within their wall structures, providing insulation while contributing rigidity to the finished unit.
- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Cold rooms
- Cold storage
03Application Area
Industrial Insulation
Rigid systems are also applied to pipes, tanks and equipment where temperature needs to be maintained across a process or distribution network.
- Pipes
- Equipment
- Tanks and vessels
- Specialised insulation
